A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BYHALIA HIGH SCHOOL INDIANS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1998-1999 SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Byhalia High School Indians Basketball Team finished the 1998-1999 season with an outstanding record of 32 wins and only three losses; and

WHEREAS, this group of young men were the first team in the history of Byhalia High School to go to the State Championship play-off; and

WHEREAS, the Indians have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Reverend Charles Gillespie and Assistant Coach Charles Cummings, who have broadened the players knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Gillespie has brought additional honor to Byhalia High School for being selected as the 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon the players, including: the naming of Contrell Alexander to the All-District Team, the McDonald All-American Team and the All-State Team; the selection of Dennis Isom to the All-District Team, the McDonald All-American Team, the All-State Team and as the Player of the Year in North Mississippi; and the naming of Marcus Faulkner, Joseph Dodson and Steven Walker to the All-District Team; and

WHEREAS, the Indians have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Byhalia High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Byhalia High School Indians Basketball Team and Head Coach Reverend Charles Gillespie and Assistant Coach Charles Cummings for their outstanding 1998-1999 season and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished Byhalia High School, Head Coach Reverend Charles Gillespie and Assistant Coach Charles Cummings and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
